Morgan Hill – When the winning drivers of the San Jose Grand Prix crack open their celebratory bottles of champagne Sunday, look for the Guglielmo label.

Guglielmo Winery, established in 1925 in Morgan Hill, was selected by race officials to create the commemorative wine and champagne for the third San Jose Grand Prix, July 27-29.

Wine connoisseurs can select and taste chardonnets and cabernet sauvignon blancs under Guglielmo’s Villa Emile label from the wine lists in club suites at the Grand Prix, and a brut champagne will be served from the large format three-liter bottles at Friday night’s drivers party, and at Saturday night’s $500-per-ticket Cabana Gala Fundraiser event .

“It’s very exciting for us,” Gene Guglielmo said. “I think it will supply some awareness, and people will be tasting and find the quality of our brand and it can only help business.”

With television and radio advertisements, public announcements during the course of the events, and banners throughout downtown San Jose, Guglielmo Wines will get plenty of attention.

“It”s a give-give situation and we worked out a positive arrangement for both sides,” Guglielmo said. “We can’t afford to supply the total amount, but they are getting a lot of wine and the large format champagne bottles with the commemorative logo.”

As the official wine of the Grand Prix Guglielmo Winery is supplying more than 100 cases of wine, and it is also heavily involved with the Gilroy Garlic Festival, which runs on the same days.

“I wish I could be there for the whole time, but I’ll be splitting my time between the Grand Prix and the Garlic Festival with my brother,” Guglielmo said. “The right people will be tasting our wine, so this is a great opportunity for us.”
