“Where I live there’s been some development on agricultural land east of Hill Road on Tennant Avenue. I’m just curious as to what’s being developed out there. Can you help?”
Dear Curious, Red Phone contacted Planning Manager Jim Rowe, who said the property in question is located outside the city limits and in the incorporated area of the county.
“We received both phone and e-mail inquiries regarding this activity last week,” he said. “We left messages with county planning and county code enforcement.
“We received a return call from Jim Lanz, county code enforcement officer for South County and were told the grading is associated with a grass/sod farm being established on approximately five acres.
“The county considers a grass farm to be a permitted agricultural use, therefore no permits are required through county planning.”
There you have it, good caller. Hope that helps.
When will LOHS construction end?
“I’m a taxpayer in Morgan Hill with two children in Morgan Hill schools. When I drive by Live Oak High School, I see that construction continues. But in Gilroy, the new Christopher High School is almost finished. Why do they keep postponing the completion of the Live Oak High School project? Why does it take 18 months to finish, when Gilroy can build a new high school? Appreciate your help. Bye.”
Dear Postponed, Red Phone contacted district spokesman Dan Ehrler, who said there is no firm completion date.
“I can tell you that due to the age of the building and restrictions and requirements by the state, work on the theatre, as well as the amphitheatre, is continuing but taking longer than we had expected,” he said. “The facade is also progressing and expected to be completed by the time the new school year begins.”
Red Phone can’t imagine that’s the answer you want to hear, but there you have it good caller.
An assisted living facility planned
“Red Phone, I think people are referring to the work adjacent to the medical building, on the corner of Cochrane Road and Mission View Drive. There’s a construction trailer, fencing and machinery doing something. I recall a sign once being posted that mentioned an assisted living facility. Is that what’s under construction? The dirt ‘stockpile’ you keep pointing readers to is adjacent to the offramp from U.S. 101 north and the nursery.”
Dear Got it Wrong, thanks for clarifying the location of what two previous Red Phone callers have asked about, and with the new information, Red Phone learned that yes, you are correct. According to Planning Manager Jim Rowe, the city building department has issued a site development and grading permit for an assisted living facility on Cochrane Road next to the DePaul Health Center.
“The full building permit can be issued as soon as the architect brings in some inserts to the building plans,” he said.
He expected that to occur this week.
