Live Oak High’s girls basketball team was rewarded for its turnaround season when coaches recently voted Acorns wing Jocelyn Mendoza the Blossom Valley Athletic League West Valley Division Co-Junior of the Year, and Mike Kiefer was named Coach of the Year.
Kiefer helped Live Oak go from 16 losses last year to 16 wins this season, as the Acorns (16-9) reached the Central Coast Section Division III playoffs.
Live Oak also had its freshmen backcourt duo of Amy Gunther and Fayth Lyon receive first-team all-league honors. Second-team honors went to Live Oak senior forward Alex Balala and senior guard Courtney Thomson.
