Even a Ghost likes to see something solid once in a while. And
it doesn
’t get anymore solid than the World Boxing Council rankings, the
latest edition of which have Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero sitting
pretty at No. 6 on the list. Guerrero and his camp knew the Gilroy
boxer would move up considerably in the major rankings after his
easy victory over Cesar Figueroa
in an NABF featherweight title fight on Dec. 9. But it was good
to see it on paper, anyway.
Even a Ghost likes to see something solid once in a while. And it doesn’t get anymore solid than the World Boxing Council rankings, the latest edition of which have Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero sitting pretty at No. 6 on the list.
Guerrero and his camp knew the Gilroy boxer would move up considerably in the major rankings after his easy victory over Cesar Figueroa in an NABF featherweight title fight on Dec. 9. But it was good to see it on paper, anyway.
“It’s nice that everybody else can go and check it out too, not just hear it from us.”
Guerrero’s manager Mario Serrano said a Ghost fight was in the works, “most likely it’ll be (against) somebody in the top 10. Look for something in late February, early March, but nothing’s final yet.”
Guerrero also cracked the top 10 in the World Boxing Association and International Boxing Federation rankings.
“I’m there, I’m in the running,” he said. “I’m top 10 in the world now and I’m gonna shoot for that title.”
Meanwhile, the Ghost (14-0-1, 7 KOs) was named a “rising star” by USA Today in the newspaper’s year-end boxing roundup. And the NABF featherweight champion appears with U.S. Olympic gold medalist and newly turned pro Andre Ward (1-0, 1 KO) on the WB20’s “Youth Outlook TV” program every Sunday this month.
