Morgan Hill – A 20-year-old Gilroy woman who was the passenger in a two-vehicle accident Oct. 12 has died from injuries she suffered in the accident.
Lourdes Garcia-Tacuba was taken to San Jose Regional Medical Center after the 5:35am accident on Highway 152 just west of Bloomfield Road.
She was pronounced dead seven hours later, at 2:32pm, according to a representative from the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office.
Garcia-Tacuba was riding in a Ford Contour driven by Irlanda Garcia, 24, of Gilroy, traveling eastbound on the highway. The road was wet from rain, according to the California Highway Patrol report.
Garcia was reportedly traveling too fast for conditions, and the Contour hydroplaned into the westbound lane. Janet Cano, 34, of Los Banos, was driving westbound in an Acura Integra and could not avoid Garcia’s car, according to the report. The front of her Integra smashed into the passenger side door of the Contour.
Garcia-Tacuba was unconscious and had to be extricated from the vehicle by emergency personnel. She was not responsive at the scene.
Both Garcia and Cano also were taken to San Jose Regional Medical Center where they were treated and released. All three women were wearing seatbelts, according to the report, and neither driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
