Community Solutions is anticipating a cruel triple-whammy: deep budget cuts due to the state’s $35 billion in red ink, increased demand for its services due to the flagging economy, which is in turn causing corporate donations to fall.

The agency provides social services to south Santa Clara and San Benito County residents, reaching more than 14,000 clients with just 123 employees. The agency provides services to the mentally ill, batterers, substance abusers, provides supervised visitation for divorced families, operates a domestic violence shelter, offers substance abuse prevention programs, rape crisis intervention, provides family and child counseling, runs a restorative justice program for youth and helps children in foster care develop independent living skills.

These are critical services and their existence makes South Valley a better place to live for all of us.

Faced with more clients and less money, Community Solutions is turning to the public for help. By early May, you should hear from someone at the agency asking for a donation. We urge our readers to give as much as they can to Community Solutions.

Someone you know has been helped by this agency. Let’s all make sure that the important services Community Solutions offers will be available when you, your neighbor, friend, coworker or relative needs them.

Dig deep and give to Community Solutions.
