The PJFF may be unknown to most South Valley residents, since there hasn’t been a festival yet, but just you wait. You’ll see. In November festival organizers will lay a full-blown film festival at Morgan Hill’s feet.

A large and energetic group of film fans has been meeting for almost a year making plans and collecting select short, 30-minute films from far and wide. PJFF especially encourages women and girls to submit films since they have traditionally been underrepresented in the industry, but want to hear from everyone.

The energy and commitment of the huge PJFF committee is amazing to watch as they do the hard work and the rest of us will benefit. We look forward to the first annual film festival.

Morgan Hill doesn’t have the Cannes beach but it does have its own semi-rustic form of glamour, expected to be on display in November when the red carpet is rolled out and Kleig lights illuminate the sky.

We do have one tiny suggestion, however. After the festival committee looks ahead, perhaps they would consider making it regionwide, including Gilroy, Hollister and maybe even Watsonville and points south.

The PJFF will take place at the Granada Theater, re-opened for the affair, Nov. 12-14 but the public can get involved sooner than that.

Get out the poodle skirts and saddle shoes, circle pins and Peter Pan-collared shirts because, on Saturday, July 10, PJFF will show the movie “Grease” at the Granada Theater as a fundraiser.

The PJFF Presents “Grease” is on Saturday, July 10, at the Granada Theater, 17440 Monterey Road. Tickets are $15 at the door and include admission, drink and snacks. Doors open at 7 p.m. and seating is limited.

Poppy Jasper, for those new to town, is a cinnamon/yellow-colored rock decorated with circles and is only found in and about Morgan Hill. It has to be true since the Smithsonian said so.

A lovely chunk of the rock has been polished and is on exhibit in the community center lobby.
