The Gavilan baseball team lost 8-4 to visiting Hartnell on Tuesday.

The Rams (0-10, 0-3) were up 4-2 in the seventh inning before starter Matt Garcia was pulled and Hartnell scored two runs to tie the game.

Former Baler Eric Diaz Jr., who played for Gavilan coach Neal Andrade at San Benito High last year, went 3 for 5 for Hartnell and had the big hit to tie the game.

The Rams gave up one run in the eighth and three in the ninth. Gavilan had its chances in the bottom of the seventh inning after getting the first two runners on base, but Hartnell made a nice play on a sacrifice bunt to get the lead runner at third base.

Rocco Casanza and John Kirkish went 2 for 3 for the Rams. Isaac Rodriquez was 1 for 4 hit and had two RBIs.

“We played error-free ball,” Andrade said. “When we are struggling like we are, we have to look for things to build on. A couple crucial mistakes late in the game hurt us. It seems everything that can go wrong for us is. We’ll get over it. I can’t fault the guys because they are working hard. The team attitude is still there.”
