Get ready for the first GavFEST – a full day of fun, creativity, and entertainment on the beautiful Gavilan College Gilroy campus. Admission is free to this one-of-a-kind event on Saturday, April 24, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., at Gavilan College Gilroy campus, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd.
Part open house, part arts festival, part celebration, GavFEST promises a good time for the whole community. Raffles will be conducted throughout the day, with a grand-prize drawing at the Student Center at 3:30 p.m. Student clubs will be selling beverages and snacks, and the college cafeteria will be open for lunch.
The campus will be split into four “quadrants” for the day, each with its own theme. Events, hands-on activities, and raffles are scheduled throughout the day in all quadrants, and in the Student Center. The festival will officially get started with a performance by Watsonville Taiko in the “Purple Quad.”
The activities kick off Friday with the return of Bach to Blues, a concert featuring a range of music from Bach…to Blues! Performed by notable local musicians, including many on the Gavilan College faculty, Bach to Blues was performed at Gavilan College for several years in the 1990’s. This years’s production is offered to the community through a partnership between Gavilan College and the South Valley Symphony.
Tickets are for sale at all South Valley Symphony Outlets, as well as at the Gavilan College Bookstore and Gavilan College Box Office. V.I.P. seating (which includes a Bach to Blues latte mug and Starbucks coffee) is $25. General admission seating is $12, senior tickets are $10, and students $8. The Box Office will open at 6:30 p.m. on the day of the performance.
The concert in the college theater begins at 7:30 p.m.
To order tickets by phone, call the Gavilan College Box Office at (408) 846-4873.
The Student Center will feature an Open House of college services and programs for prospective students, campus tours by the college Ambassadors, a resource fair of community non-profit organizations, and performances on the Center Stage by musical groups Nominal, Nightmare on Bourbon Street, Ron Johnson, and Triplex.
Visitors will carry a “passport”, and get it “punched” in each quadrant they visit. Once the passport is punched, the bearer becomes eligible to enter the grand prize drawing in the Student Center. Prizes include a plasma-screen TV and thousands of dollars in book scholarships.
“It’s a way to thank the community for their support of Measure E, and to invite those who haven’t visited the campus before to explore all that Gavilan College has to offer.” said Gavilan College President Steve Kinsella.
