It’s October and that means lots of fun at Live Oak for
everyone. This past Thursday, it was club food day. Just about
every club on campus signed up to sell yummy food to help raise
some money for their club. We had snacks ranging from baked goods
and Jamba Juice to double cheeseburgers and Chinese food.
It’s October and that means lots of fun at Live Oak for everyone. This past Thursday, it was club food day. Just about every club on campus signed up to sell yummy food to help raise some money for their club. We had snacks ranging from baked goods and Jamba Juice to double cheeseburgers and Chinese food. Most clubs sell out or reduce their prices by the end of the half hour. Club food day is held about five to six times a year and is probably the most anticipated day of the week by not just students, but teachers too!Â
Along with the month of October comes homecoming season. Each class is currently involved in creating a float for the homecoming parade after school on the 21st. Homecoming queens for each class are also in the process of being elected by everyone on campus. The official start of our homecoming activities is marked by our San Francisco Bay Cruise coming up this Saturday, the 15th. This cruise-dance has always been a popular semi-formal event for us Acorns and has the potential to sell out. Students are to be at Live Oak at 5pm to load on the charter buses and enjoy the ride up to the city by the bay.
In October, but also each month, student mentors meet with a group a freshmen to talk and make sure their first year in high school is going smoothly. The mentors consist of volunteers from the sophomore, junior and senior classes. We meet the freshmen in their P.E. classes and spend the period playing an ice breaker or just sitting down and talking about classes, upcoming activities, and how to get involved around L.O. During the past two weeks, each P.E. class was assigned a certain day at lunch to go to the gym and eat some free pizza with their mentor. All six sessions were very successful and it was just a fun time getting to talk and eat some pizza. Our next exciting meeting with our freshmen is this Wednesday during their P.E. class.
Our football boys had a bye this week and they have an away game this week at North Salinas at 7:30. And also a note of congrats to both our guys’ and girls’ water polo teams for their success in tournaments and league play so far this season. Come check out all of our fall Acorn sports before the season ends!
