A Fresno couple police believe were high on stimulants spent Sunday evening slashing the car tires of random victims and creating general mayhem in south Gilroy before officers caught up with them.
With their two young children in tow, Alicia and Javier Olivo, both 29, slashed the tires of cars parked in front of Michaels and Radio Shack in southeast Gilroy and ran their car into a vehicle at the Arteaga’s Super Save on Chestnut Street, police said.
Police said Javier Olivo brandished a loaded handgun at the victim of the hit and run but no one was hurt in the incident.
“The two arrestees may have been under the influence of narcotics and possibly delusional,” said Sgt. Chad Gallacinao. “They believed that these vehicles were following them so they were attempting to disable the vehicles.”
Police apprehended the couple about 7:30 p.m. in their red Chevrolet Tahoe near Rossi Lane and Rossi Court in an industrial section of south Gilroy.
Inside the vehicle, officers found the gun they believe Javier Olivo brandished at the victim of the hit and run. They also found the couple’s two young children in the car, Gallacinao said.
Upon contact with officers, Javier Olivo was combative and tried to slip out of his handcuffs, Gallacinao said.
Police charged the couple with a litany of crimes: child endangerment, brandishing a firearm, vandalism, resisting arrest, possession of narcotics paraphernalia, being under the influence of a controlled substance, hit and run, carrying a loaded firearm and carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle.
Police also arrested Javier Olivo for being a felon in possession of a gun and believe he may have been involved in a recent shooting that took place in Fresno County, Gallacinao said.
“We’re not really sure what they were doing up here,” he said.
