The Santa Teresa Division-leading Bruins were led by three hits apiece by Ryan Anderson, Ronnie Bernal and Craig Hertler as the team rapped out 15 hits.
Branham (19-4 overall, 15-3 BVAL) scored four times in the second and in the sixth. Hertler tripled, drove in two runs and scored twice.
Bernal and Gino Valletta had two RBIs apiece. Anderson and Daniel Scholl each scored twice. Chris Mendoza pitched six innings to gain the win.
Sobrato (13-10, 10-8) scored one run in the third and two runs in the fifth. The Bulldogs, dropping their second straight after a four-game win streak, were led by Ryan Evanger, who drove in two runs.
Danny Nelson had two hits and scored two runs, and Bryan Yates had two hits, knocked in one run and scored another. Evanger and Yates also had stolen bases. Seven different Bulldogs collected at least one hit.
Sobrato finishes the regular season with two games next week at home. The Bulldogs host Del Mar at 3:30pm Tuesday and Independence at 3:30pm Thursday.
Softball
Sobrato’s tough stretch continued as Del Mar handed the error-plagued Bulldogs a 15-5 loss Wednesday. The game was halted after five innings because of the mercy rule.
The Bulldogs, who got off to a promising 2-0 start in the Blossom Valley Athletic League’s Santa Teresa Division, have now dropped seven straight.
The Dons (12-9-2 overall, 9-3 BVAL), winners of seven of their last eight, packed all their scoring into two innings. Del Mar scored nine runs in the second inning and six runs in the fifth.
Senior Kellene Condie led the Dons’ eight-hit attack with two hits and a grand slam. Senior pitcher Lauren Zweigle picked up the win.
Freshman Frankie Kellett homered for Sobrato, which scored four runs in the third and one in the fifth.
The Bulldogs (7-14 overall, 2-9 BVAL) finish their season next week with games Tuesday at Willow Glen and Thursday at home against Oak Grove.
