San Jose – Four Sobrato athletes and three more from Live Oak claimed Santa Teresa Division championships in Saturday’s league finals at Lincoln.

Those division champions, along with the top five finishers in each event, advance to the Blossom Valley Athletic League championships Thursday at Mt. Pleasant.

Ariel Mosbrucker produced one of the stronger performances for Sobrato. She placed first in the high jump at 5-feet, 2-inches and also took second in the long jump (16-0 1/2) and third in the triple jump (32-5).

Joining her as league champions for the Bulldogs were a pair of pole vaulters. Will Cambra took the boys pole vault championship – in which the top three spots were occupied by Sobrato – at 11-6. Amanda Paul won the girls pole vault at 8-6. Joe Edgar was second in the boys pole vault at 10-0 and Christopher Lewis was third at 9-0.

Rounding out Sobrato’s league champions was the boys 4×400 relay team, which edged Leigh with its time of 3:36.28. The Longhorns were second at 3:36.98 and Live Oak was third at 3:37.08.

Among the league champions for Live Oak was sprinter Kevin Abbott, who won the 100 meters with a time of 11.40. The senior beat out the aptly named Michael Fleet, who finished at 11.46.

In the discus, Matt Acosta cruised to the title with a throw of 124-9, beating out Ryan Mendez of Westmont’s throw of 117-4.

The Acorns’ Courtney Robinson also took home a league title by beating out teammate Erika Rodriguez 26.59-27.24 in the 200 meters.

Other Bulldogs finishing in the top three were Alan Rios, second in the boys 800 at 2:02.10 and Abhi Devaraj, third in 3,200 at 12:05.50. As a team, the Bulldogs placed fourth in the girls competition with 41 points.

Top finishers for Live Oak included sisters Katie and Stephanie Armstrong, placing second and third respectively in the 100 hurdles. Katie, a junior, finished in 17.10 and Stephanie, a freshman, was right behind at 17.37.

Rodriguez notched another runner-up finish by taking second in the 100 meters at 13.43. Pauline Olsen finished second in the girls 400 at 1:00.56; Kate Lowe was second in the high jump at 5-2 and Denae Chappell was second in the discus at 97-6. The 4×400 team took third at 4:15.33.

On the boys side, the 4×100 relay team was second at 45.66, Nic Muhn took second in the 300 hurdles at 41.67 and the 4×400 relay team was third at 3:37.08. Juillard Robinson grabbed a pair of third-place finishes in the 400 meters (51.95) and in the 200 meters (23.26).

The Live Oak girls were second as a team with 89 points. Leland was first with 132 and Leigh was second with 108. On the boys side, Live Oak took fourth with 65 points. Willow Glen held the top spot with 114.
