Local residents interested in becoming foster families for underage kittens attended an instructional clinic April 9 at the Santa Clara County Animal Control and Shelter facility in San Martin.
Dr. Elizabeth Kather and other animal shelter staff provided information about the foster care program to the attendees, and brought out a couple of the underage kittens.
The kittens are placed in foster care until they are at least two months old and weigh about two pounds, the minimum requirements before they can be spayed or neutered. Foster periods can last for one to 10 weeks (depending on the age of the kittens) and foster homes are vital to these kittens.
