Former SJ cop D’Arrigo’s sentencing for sex crimes Friday

The sentencing of the former San Jose policer officer from Gilroy who pleaded no contest to two counts of unlawful sexual contact with two teen boys is slated for Friday.

Patrick D’Arrigo, 44, will face a maximum time of three years and eight months in prison. But at minimum, since D’Arrigo is eligible for probation,  he could serve only a short stint in county jail, or “whatever the judge wants to give him,” said District Attorney Stuart Scott.

On March 15, D’Arrigo pleaded “no contest” on two counts of oral copulation with a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old.

“No contest is no different from pleading guilty. It’s a way people can feel better about themselves,” he said.

D’Arrigo, who lives in Gilroy, was originally charged with three counts of unlawful sexual conduct with minors, which allegedly occured between December 2008 and March 2009. One charge was dropped since he pleaded no contest to the more serious charge.

Scott said that the judge holding the sentencing, Kenneth Shapero, is a fair and experienced judge.

“I’m sure he will give D’Arrigo the correct sentencing in this case,” he said.

The sentencing is scheduled for Friday at the South County Courthouse at 1:30 p.m.
