Salinas police are on the look out for at least two people who shot and killed two teenagers Aug. 17 – former Morgan Hill resident Lorenzo Tarin Jr. and his cousin Juan Carlos Barrios of Salinas.

Tarin, a 19-year-old Central High School graduate, and Barrios, 17 and who also went by the last name of Tarin, were gunned down near North Salinas High School during a fistfight that escalated to murder.

The circumstances surrounding the case are still under investigation, said Salinas police Sgt. Michael Groves.

“We are still just looking for witnesses to come forward,” Groves said. “We know people were there, but we’re still putting it all together.”

Groves said the shooting occurred when the cousins were fighting with the suspects. One pulled a weapon and shot both. Groves said it was a handgun but declined to name the caliber.

Lorenzo Tarin died at the scene of gunshot wounds. Barrios died later. The suspects are believed to be gang members, but police are still investigating.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call Salinas police at 831-758-7496.
