SAN JOSE — The Morgan Hill Junior Midget Raiders earned their fourth shutout of the year last weekend, defeating the South Valley Grizzlies 26-0 at Gunderson High School.
The game featured two firsts for the 2010 Raiders: a punt return and an interception return for touchdowns. Elvis Bernal picked off a deep pass and returned it about 40 yards for a score, and Max Sanford took back a punt 55 yards to the end zone for Morgan Hill’s first special touchdown this season.
The Raiders’ defense was tough all day, led by Josh Alaniz’s eight tackles and two sacks. The Grizzlies dealt with constant pressure from Morgan Hill’s Noe Garcia, Collin Ingram, David Huffman and Brenden Schow.
The Raiders’ offense had no issues moving the ball at will behind Maximo Zhang and Clay Miller, who had rushing touchdowns.
The scoring was capped when Josh Alaniz kicked a 2-point conversion after the final scoring drive.
The Raiders host the rival Gilroy Browns on Saturday.
