After a second place finish inside the Blossom Valley Athletic League’s Mount Hamilton Division, the Sobrato football team was rewarded Sunday with a No. 2 seed in the Division III Central Coast Section Playoffs.

The Bulldogs will play West Catholic opponent Archbishop Riordan (3-7) at Live Oak High School at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Sobrato, which enters the playoffs after a 59-53 win over Piedmont Hills, will face a WCAL for the first time in the schools brief history. The Crusaders enter the game with a seven-game losing streak.

The Bulldogs have never won a CCS playoff game.

Meanwhile, Live Oak did not earn a CCS berth despite starting the season with a 5-0 record. The Acorns though, lost four of their last five games and came up just short of the playoffs.

Live Oak ended its season Friday with a 33-23 loss to Leigh on the road.

The Division III playoffs are as follows:

No. 6 Buringame (5-5) at No. 3 Valley Christian (4-6), Saturday, 7 p.m.

No. 7 Riordan (3-7) at No. 2 Sobrato (7-3) Saturday, 7 p.m.

No. 5 Aptos (8-2) at No. 4 Saratoga (6-4), Friday, 7 p.m.

No. 8 Soledad (6-4) at No. 1 Monterey (8-2), Friday, 7 p.m.
