A fire is burning near Kern and Vickery avenues Thursday around

Firefighters are responding to two fires in Gilroy
– one at the intersection of Kern and Vickery avenues and
another in the levee near Christopher High School on Day Road.
Firefighters are responding to two fires in Gilroy – one at the intersection of Kern and Vickery avenues and another in the levee near Christopher High School on Day Road.

The Kern fire – estimated as a few acres – is visible as far away as Third Street, said a woman by phone who lives on the corner of Mantelli Drive and Kern Avenue.

Two structures are threatened near the Kern Avenue fire, according to dispatchers.

Units from CalFire, San Martin and Morgan Hill have responded to the Kern Avenue fire.

At the levee fire, no structures are threatened and it’s being identified by dispatchers as a grass fire.
