Smoke could be seen outside from the residential garage on

A garage was destroyed this afternoon when a vehicle inside a one-story home on Murphy Avenue at Fischer Avenue in Morgan Hill caught fire.

“An elderly lady got in her car, she started it and she said it caused an explosion,” said Cal-Fire Capt. Darrell Wolf. However, the actual cause of the fire is still undetermined he said.

There were no reported injuries, although paramedics were standing by at the scene. The garage was charred black, and smoke could be seen lingering around the area at 3 p.m. as firefighters from Cal-Fire were at the scene. The Santa Clara County Fire District trucks and Gilroy Fire Department trucks were also at the scene, with at least 20 firefighters that could be seen in and out of the house.

Wolf said they were able to contain the fire to just the garage area. He also said this is the second time in three years firefighters have been out to this house, the first time was because of a barbecue that was left on and caught fire

The fire was under control at 3:10 p.m.
