The Indian Association of South Santa Clara County (IASC) celebrated its 25th annual Diwali Festival of Lights Nov. 23 at Ann Sobrato High School in Morgan Hill. The festivities included cultural dances, authentic Indian food and “heart-pumping dancing,” IASC President Poonam Chabra said in a press release.

More than 500 people attended the local Diwali celebration, which featured more than 100 performers who took to the stage throughout the evening.

The IASC has grown steadily since it was founded 25 years ago, Chabra said. The organization has increasingly focused on becoming a larger part of the South County community by sharing its culture with neighbors, participating in local civic life and volunteering with local non-profits and charitable efforts, Chabra explained.

Area officials attending included Assemblymember Robert Rivas and Morgan Hill City Councilmembers Rene Spring, John McKay and Yvonne Matrtinez Beltran.
