Level 6 team from Champions Academy takes third
PETALUMA — For Giovannia Fedalizo and the Champions Academy of Morgan Hill, it was a successful weekend at the March 14-15 Northern California State Gymnastics Championships in Petaluma.
Fedalizo became the Level 5 state all-around champion, with a score of 86.55. In addition, he won the pommel, vault and parallel bars with near perfect performances. Fedalizo was also the pommel state champion in Level 4 in 2008, making these back-to-back state titles on pommel.
“His routines peaked at the perfect time!” his father, Luis Fedalizo, said.
Fedalizo will be one of the top contenders at the Regional Championships in Arizona, held April 3-5.
Teammate Aaron Baer turned in another stellar performance that placed him on the State All-Star Team, which will represent Northern California for state bragging rights at the Regional championships. Aaron placed first in vault and high bar, and because of his high all around score, 89.55, he earned the right to be on the all-star team. The Level 5 boys placed fourth in the state as a team.
The Level 6 boys faced a tough competition, and ended up placing third as a team in Northern California. The State competition is the only qualifying meet that leads up to the Regional Championships, and 11 boys from Champions Academy earned the honor to make the trip to Arizona to determine who are the top gymnasts in Region 1, which is comprised of Northern California, Southern California, Nevada, Arizona and Hawaii. Those qualifiers are: Fedalizo, Aaron Baer, Kyle Miner, Eric Heldt, Nick Mamola, Dante Gallardo, Maasai Jones, Bryan Miner, Garrett Perez, Nolan Beck, and Gregory Grattan.
