FBI agents and Gilroy Police Department officers raided a home on the 200 block of Lewis Street Thursday morning and arrested a 42-year-old man, police said.

The two agencies served a search warrant around 7 a.m. and arrested Gilroy resident Aaron Carlon, GPD Sgt. Chad Gallacinao said. Carlon was wanted by GPD on a warrant for a hit and run, but it is not yet known why the FBI was involved or if Carlon faces additional charges.

A spokeswoman for the FBI confirmed agents had served a search warrant, but deferred further comment to the GPD. Gallacinao said the GPD couldn’t offer further comment because the case was under the FBI’s jurisdiction.

“It’s an FBI thing, we’re not going to discuss,” he said.

One woman, who declined to give her name, said she witnessed officers escorting a handcuffed Carlon from his townhouse, which is part of a row of homes spanning almost the entire 200 block of Lewis Street.

“There were cop cars everywhere. All over the street,” she said.

She said she also saw officers taking computer equipment from the house after loading Carlon into a waiting police car. She said she asked an officer what Carlon was being arrested for, but the officer declined to comment.

“I definitely want to know what’s going on,” the woman told the Dispatch.

Another neighbor said she saw several silver and black Dodge Chargers – which she described as “FBI cars” – parked in front of the townhouses as she prepared to walk her grandchildren to school. She said she saw officers strapping on bullet-proof vests outside the townhouse.

A 22-year-old man was hospitalized last March after he was shot standing in a garage in a home just a block away from where Thursday’s raid took place.
