Dear Editor,
Live Oak clothing students will be modeling their original designs Thursday, May 19, at 7pm in the Little Theater at Live Oak High School, 1505 E. Main. More than 200 student-created garments will be modeled by 140 students. Tickets are available at Live Oak: $7 for adults $6 for students and children under 5 are free.
The students featured in the fashion show are enrolled in Live Oak’s clothing and the Regional Occupational Programs (ROP) fashion design classes. Students learn garment construction, color and textile selection and pattern drafting. These classes are designed to train students for jobs in the field of fashion design and manufacturing.
Featured in this year’s show are many original designs. The show will begin with a collection of students designed garments to reflect the look and culture of teens from the 1950s to the present. Student’s selected the theme, “Rock and Roll Forever,” to illustrate the linkage of design and the ongoing cultural influence of the entertainment industry.
Third-year clothing students, graduating seniors, will exhibit their design lines. The following students have created original garments, chosen a theme and music to reflect their inspired designs: Naleen Cole, designs of the decades from poodle skirts to the punk/grunge look of the 80s; Kelly Conner; Salsa ruffles and shirring create this design line; Samantha Ferry, hippie wear, an updated look at the relaxed 60s fashion; Dia Foster, Orange County style reflective of the TV program the “O.C.,” defines this line; Angela Heropoulos, soft, flowing lines of lingerie tops presents this illusion of butterflies; Katie Keyser, the drama of black and white sizzles this line; Elicia Perkins, glamour and fun best describe this design line; Dana Wallace, blue jeans are a forever fashion. This line embellishes the basic pant; Shanna White, dots and stripes are combined in new eye-catching garments.
Also featured at this year’s show will be a collection of quilts and hand-knitted and crocheted garments created by the students.
Generous community support from local businesses helps make the production a huge success. Gary’s Tuxedo in Almaden Fashion Plaza donated tuxedos or suits for the formal wear section of the fashion show. FOX racewear and West Valley Community College gave students modeling opportunities. As a local clothing manufacture, their support in training and jobs is beneficial to student learning.
