If you are experiencing the adventures of toilet training, here’s a book that might help:
Toilet Learning: The Picture Book Technique for Children and Parents (J Parent 649.6 Mack) Part 1 of this book focuses on the parent, helping you understand when your child is ready for this step. Part 2 is a picture book that can be read aloud to your child.
If you need help in evaluating daycare for your child, try this book: Choosing Quality Child Care: How to be Confident You Make the Right Choice (J Parent 362.712 Choosin) Published by the American Red Cross, this book offers a wealth of information including a description of the different types of child care providers, how to identify the best care, questions to ask when interviewing providers, and much more.
If you are trying to help your child choose good books, you’ll find some useful information here: Choosing Books for Children: A Commonsense Guide (J Parent 011.62 Hearne) The author of this book, a children’s librarian and book review editor, discusses children’s literature including picture books, pop-up books, classics, poetry, folktales, and factual books. There is a list of recommended books after each chapter. And, remember, Morgan Hill’s children’s librarians can recommend books, too.
In addition to the above topics, you’ll also find books on baby names, home schooling, divorce, general medical information, family vacations and other topics of interest to families.
And here are a few recent magazine articles you’ll find in our Parent’s Corner:
• “How to Talk to Your Child so He’ll Really Listen,” Parenting, February 2003, p. 92.
• “Ten Great Books about Food,” Riverbank Review of Books for Young Readers,” Winter 2003, p. 15.
• “Comparing the 2003 Encyclopedias,” Children’s Software and New Media Review, Jan/Feb, 2003, p. 6.
Our Parent’s Corner is located in the very back of the children’s area of the library, across from our story room. Please ask a librarian to help you find it, and let us know if you have suggestions for additions to the collection.
Questions and suggested topics for At The Library, which appears in Tuesday editions, should be directed to Community Librarian Sarah Flowers at sf******@**********************ca.us or by calling 779-3196.
