A total of 747,644 Santa Clara County residents are registered to vote in the June 6 primary. The last day to register was May 22.

Polls will be open on Election Day from 7am to 8pm. Polling places change from one election to the next, so voters are encouraged to check their assigned polling place locations on the back cover of the Sample Ballot, online at www.sccvote.org, or by calling (866) 430-VOTE (8683).

Voters should also read their sample ballots carefully and mark their choices before Election Day, then bring the pamphlet with them to the polls. Information about the statewide propositions is available in the Secretary of State’s Voter Information Guide and online at www.ss.ca.gov. Additional information about the election is available online at www.smartvoter.org and www.easyvoter.org.

When voters go to the polls on June 6, they will use Santa Clara County’s touch-screen voting machines with the new VeriVote paper audit trail. The VeriVote allows voters to view a paper record of their ballots and verify that all selections are recorded accurately. The paper record is stored inside the VeriVote printer so it can be used for manual recounts. It is not a receipt, and voters will not take it with them. Paper ballots will not be available at the polls. More information about VeriVote is available at www.sccvote.org.

Santa Clara County has been using touch-screen voting machines manufactured by Sequoia Voting Systems since 2003. They are easy to use and offer a variety of accessibility features, such as audio voting and multiple languages. They also meet all state and federal standards for accuracy and security.

About one-third of Santa Clara County’s voters, 262,000, have requested absentee ballots.

Early voting is available at the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters’ Office through Monday. Details: 299-vote.

The June 6 election is a primary to select party representatives for the Nov. 7 general election.
