Nelson, a Gilroy High alum, and sophomore point guard Jimmy Herrera, a Live Oak High grad, both finished with a team-high 14 points.

Freshman guard Steve Silacci added 12 points and freshman forward Jimmy Cheatum netted 11 points.

Gavilan (0-6 in conference, 3-22 overall) fell behind by 15 at 35-20 by the break and were outscored 40-35 in the second half.

San Jose City boosted its record to 22-7 overall and 3-3 in conference.
