On the ballot will be Michael Castelan, former owner of Poppy’s Fish, Poultry and More; Joseph Carrillo, who lists his occupation as a handyman and entrepreneur; firefighter Rich Constantine; Ken Galloway, a project manager; Rick Moreno, owner of Ricatoni’s Delicatessen; David Mounteer, a for-profit school administrator; Lee Schmidt, a real estate broker; and Gordon Siebert, a civil engineer.
Two people pulled filing papers, but did not fill them out and submit them in time for Wednesday’s deadline, according to City Clerk Irma Torrez. Those two are Jan Comstock and Jynelle LaPointe.
The eight candidates will compete for the seats currently occupied by council members Marby Lee and Greg Sellers. Council members serve the city at large, and the top two vote getters in the Nov. 2 election will win the seats, Torrez explained.
Neither incumbent is running for another term. Sellers is taking at least a couple years off from public service, while Lee will run for the mayor’s seat, which will be contested in the same election and is currently occupied by Steve Tate.
The deadline to file for the mayor’s race was last Friday. Lee, Tate and former city finance director Art College qualified to run for that race.
