Cheers to the local wineries that took home more than 60 medals from the 2010 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, their strongest showing on record. The medals highlight how far the region has come in wine-making.
The award-winning wines can be found at local restaurants, D’Vine Jazz & Wine in Morgan Hill, and at the wineries’ tasting rooms.
“Everyone should be proud,” said Therese Martin, owner of Martin Ranch Winery, which won five silver and three bronze medals. “We are in an up-and-coming wine area that will be showing a lot of great wines for several years to come.”
Jeers to the inconsiderate motorists and bicyclists who take to South County roads with the selfish belief that they are the only ones on the road.
And while the recent deaths of two bicyclists were not the result of aggressive drivers, they do point out the need for everyone – motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians – to follow the rules of the road and respect each other.
Cheers to Bill Klipstine for coming out of retirement to direct the student-produced “Alice in Wonderland,” and to the students who waited while delays pushed back the opening of the $5.3 million Live Oak Theater more than six months.
Klipstine opened the theater in 1974 with a Community Adult School production of the “Ten Little Indians.” Now students, who were nomads, rehearsing in classrooms around campus and putting on productions in El Toro Elementary School’s cafeteria, have a state-of-the-art facility to work in for years to come.
Jeers to those who have inundated Red Phone complaining about the stench that wafts over Morgan Hill emanating from the seven mushroom farms located in South County.
It’s hard to empathize with those who recently moved here and now want something done about the offending farms.
Relax. Stay here another decade or two and they’ll eventually disappear, just as the plum and apricot orchards and the dozens of small farms have. It’s inevitable.
Cheers to the 2010 Salute Morgan Hill winners who give so much to the community. They are Man of the Year Lynn Liebschutz, Woman of the Year Teri Larice, Student of the Year Franchesca Kellett, Educator of the Year Ellen Yu Costa, Business of the Year Cherisse’s Hair Salon, and Volunteer of the Year the Morgan Hill Kiwanis Club.
The group will be honored Saturday night.
