In an effort to curb drunk driving on graduation weekend, the Morgan Hill Police Department will conduct a DUI Checkpoints on East Dunne Avenue at Joleen Way from 8:30pm to 1am Saturday.
There will be many graduation parties this weekend and probably an increased number of impaired drivers out on the roadways, according to a press release by the Morgan Hill Police Department.
The purpose of the checkpoint is to educate drivers and their passengers about the facts and dangers of drinking and driving.
Drivers who have been drinking and are then contacted at the checkpoint will be screened to determine if they are driving with a blood alcohol content greater than .08 percent. Any driver who is driving under the influence will be taken into custody.
Drivers under the age of 21 who have any traceable amount of alcohol in their system may lose their licenses for a year.
They might also be arrested for DUI depending on the blood alcohol content.
