The Hollister-Gilroy office of the California Highway Patrol will host a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint Friday night, Dec. 27 in an unincorporated area of south Santa Clara County.
CHP officers who are trained in alcohol and impaired driver detection will staff the checkpoint, according to a press release from the local office. A CHP “drug recognition expert,” certified by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, will also be on site to provide assessments of drivers suspected of drug use.
Officers will also use preliminary screening devices to accurately analyze breath samples, police said.
“Drivers passing through the checkpoint will be checked for impairment and arrested if determined to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs,” reads a press release from the CHP office. “The checkpoint will send a clear message to the community that the CHP will not tolerate impaired driving and will promote awareness of the dangers of driving under the influence.”
The Dec. 27 sobriety checkpoint will be funded through a grant program known as California Impaired Driving Reduction, through the California Office of Traffic Safety.
The exact location of the Dec. 27 checkpoint will not be publicized until after 4pm.
