Morgan Hill police will conduct a DUI checkpoint Friday night.
The purpose of the checkpoint, the location of which police did not reveal, is to raise awareness about the dangers of drunk driving, police said.
Officers will ensure motorists driving through the checkpoint are sober, and those that are suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be screened further, according to authorities.
Impaired drivers may be cited or arrested at the scene, and taken to the Morgan Hill police station for further testing, police said.
Adults driving with a blood alcohol content of .08 percent, and underage drivers with a blood alcohol content of .01 percent will be eligible for arrest or citation.
Officers will also ensure drivers are licensed.
Police encourage drinkers to designate a sober driver or arrange a safe ride any time they venture outside their homes, authorities said.
