Royal Clothiers and Megy’s Boutique open in the old General
Store space
Morgan Hill – With prom and wedding season just around the corner, the residents of Morgan Hill now have a one-stop shop to cover all their formal wear needs courtesy of Royal Clothiers and Megy’s Boutique.
Located on the corner of Monterey Road and Fourth Street, Royal Clothiers and Megy’s Boutique are two stores collaborating to offer customers a variety of men’s and women’s formal wear all in one location.
The only stores of their kind in Morgan Hill, Royal Clothiers and Megy’s Boutique are intent on providing the community with services they couldn’t otherwise find within city limits, such as tuxedo rentals and sales, brand name men’s Italian suits, wedding gowns, flower girl and bridesmaid dresses and shoes, to name a few.
“We’re here to provide excellent service for everyone, so they don’t have to go to San Jose or elsewhere,” said Maria Villalpando, owner and operator of Megy’s Boutique. “We’re here for everything they need.”
Since opening their doors about two months ago Villalpando and Carlos Perez, owner and operator of Royal Clothiers, have been doing a brisk business and getting positive feedback from customers and the community.
Perez, a long-time resident of Morgan Hill, opened the men’s store because he saw a need after his former employer, Crissara shut its doors four years ago. Perez has no employees, providing all the men’s services, including tailoring on his own. He offers Italian suits by Baroni, Leveti, Via Montana and Nino Cordi as well as other brands. Royal Clothiers also has Selix tuxedos for rental and has various brands of tuxedos available for purchase. They also provide package deals for weddings and special occasions.
“They (Crissara) made a good reputation and a lot of people miss them,” said Perez. “I have long-time customers that are loyal to my business and they became friends. It’s important to continue giving the best service to them. They were so happy when I opened this place. This shop is my best way to serve this beautiful community.”
Sharing the retail space, Megy’s Boutique compliments Royal Clothiers men’s wear with formal and bridal wear for women. Villalpando has owned her own shop for about a year and a half in Candy Park on Main Street before moving to the new location.
“Business has been good. When I was located in Candy Park things were slow,” said Villalpando. “Here I am getting more exposure and people have been reacting in a good way. They’re glad I’m here.”
Villalpando has one employee helping her provide a variety of services for women’s formal wear needs. She offers a collection of wedding gowns, prom dresses, christianing gowns, first communion and Quincinera attire, as well as shoes and accessories. Megy’s Boutique also sells more casual dresses for other school dances or events.
Business is going well for the shops and Villalpando is already considering expanding her shop so she can add products and services her customers ask for. She is also looking for another person who specializes in bridal so she can provide a special service for brides. Appointments are recommended by Villalpando, though she welcomes walk-ins.
“Looking for a wedding dress is very special, so I think they should have the time and attention to do that,” said Villalpando. “It’s a one stop shop, which makes it good. It’s been a good collaboration. Pretty soon we’ll need more space.”
Royal Clothiers and Megy’s Boutique are planning a grand opening to invite the community to come and see what their businesses have to offer. The date has not been set as of yet.
