Dr. Robert Moulthrop

Prominent community volunteer and Morgan Hill dentist, Dr. Robert A. “Bob” Adair Moulthrop, DDS, 53, died from a sudden heart attack Wednesday, June 6, as he was walking his dog.
Dr. Moulthrop, a resident of Morgan Hill since 1962, was immediate past president of Rotary Club of Morgan Hill, where he worked tirelessly on public service projects including Rotary’s international effort to eradicate polio, the RotaCare free medical clinic in Gilroy, and annual speech competition for local high school students.
“What a tragic loss to Morgan Hill,” said Mayor Steve Tate. “Bob’s huge personality was so infectious; he made people around him feel happy and cared about. He was an integral part of the Morgan Hill community.”
Steve Schwab, retired Morgan Hill police chief and a Rotarian who worked with Moulthrop for decades, said his friend and colleague always made people feel good.
“Bob’s humor and dedication to Rotary service was addictive to all around him,” Schwab said. “He always made you feel great.”
Moulthrop was a graduate of Live Oak High School, where he served as drum major when the school’s marching band garnered fame by winning the Marching Bands of America Grand National Championship in 1976.
He graduated from San Jose State University with a Bachelor of Arts in biology and a double minor in chemistry and psychology, and then the University of Southern California with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. He opened his Morgan Hill dental practice in 1984, and was a recipient of the Morgan Hill Times Readers’ Poll designation as “Best Dentist in Morgan Hill.”
In 1988, he married Stephani Sarciaux Moulthrop, and they worked together both in his private dental practice, and in giving generously as volunteers and donors to area community organizations.
Dr. Moulthrop was the son of the late Robert A. Moultrop, and his mother, Margaret, 87, of Morgan Hill.
A memorial service has not been scheduled. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Morgan Hill Senior Center and the Gilroy clinic of RotaCare Bay Area.
