Ricatoni’s Delicatessen, Ragoots, Sinaloa Cafe and Rosy’s at the Beach will each donate a percent of sales to Habitat during a lunch or dinner next week.
Ricatoni’s will participate from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday by donating 20 percent of its sales. Ragoots will donate 10 percent of its sales between 11:30 a.m. and 9 p.m. Wednesday. Sinaloa will donate 10 percent of its sales from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday. And Rosy’s at the Beach will donate 10 percent between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Thursday. Foundations are being poured for the six Cory Drive homes this month. Habitat expects to have a kickoff wall raising in January, following which families and volunteers will help build the homes, executive director Jennifer Simmons said.
The economic recession caused a months-long delay for the project.
A groundbreaking ceremony planned for April was postponed until the fall and will now take place in January. Money was tied up at the state level and the city of Morgan Hill pitched in $200,000 more than it planned to include green building design elements.
But before the recession, the project was already plagued with delays from city-required redesigns. The Morgan Hill Planning Commission approved the final design of the homes in February 2008. The six homes, on Cory off San Pedro Avenue, will sell for an average of $200,000. The families, which endured a strenuous application process to be selected, will buy the homes from Habitat with no interest.
