I have mentioned on several occasions that golf is a game of opposites. That really holds true when it comes to the effort we make in simply trying to get the ball up in the air.

Our brain tells us that if the ball is to get airborn, we need to help it into the air. This often comes in the form of standing up during the swing or trying to get under the ball and scooping it up on the upswing. This scooping motion always causes the left arm to bend.

Sometimes we just need to tell our brain to not do the obvious and do what works when it comes to golf. What works in golf is to stay in a sitting position with your knees flexed and your left arm straight.

Now, keeping the knee flexed, strike the ball and the turf simultaneously, thus hitting the ball with the club face and not the bottom edge of the club. When you stand up or bend your left arm, you will hit the very top of the ball and not get it up in the air.

So you see it really is a game of opposites. If your body stays down, the ball will go up.
