Morgan Hill – A 27-year-old Morgan Hill man was arrested Saturday evening after a day of domestic violence involving his girlfriend.
According to Morgan Hill olice Cmdr. David Swing, the man was booked into Santa Clara County jail for alleged domestic violence, for alleged violation of a restraining order causing injury and resisting arrest.
Earlier on Saturday, at approximately 2:20pm, the man and his girlfriend, who share the same address, Swing said, were allegedly arguing at the Jack in the Box at Tennant Avenue and Vineyard Boulevard. After shattering the front passenger window with his fist, the man tried to grab the keys from the ignition. When officers arrived on the scene, the victim had driven away in the car. The man was treated by paramedics for lacerations on his hand, Swing said.
The man was not arrested after the first incident.
“At the time, we didn’t have a victim,” Swing said.
Later on Saturday, at approximately 6:30pm, the man found his girlfriend at the Valero gas station on Monterey Road. Swing said she asked someone at the gas station to call the police and stayed in her car with the doors locked. The man then ripped the plastic from the driver’s side window and tried to pull her out by her hair, according to Swing. She apparently got out of the car, tripped and fell to the ground, but when officers arrived at the gas station, he was arguing with her.
Swing said when Morgan Hill police officers Kyle Christensen and Greg Dini were trying to pat him down and cuff him, the man “started to become combative, tensing up his muscles and trying to resist arrest.”
The man was then taken down to the ground to restrain him, but when he began to kick, the officers used a taser in what is called a “drive stun.” A drive stun is when the taser is touched directly on the skin instead of probes shooting from the taser.
The suspect was then handcuffed and put in the back of the police car without incident, Swing said.
The victim complained of pain to her arm and told officers she was four months pregnant. Paramedics responded to the gas station, but she was not taken to the hospital.
Swing said it was not clear if alcohol or drugs were involved in either incident.
