A domestic dispute turned ugly stopped short of tragedy Tuesday night when a friend of the couple intervened and Morgan Hill Police officers arrived on the scene.
According to MHPD Lt. Joe Sampson, Rene Sanchez, 35, of Morgan Hill, was arrested after a 8:50pm call to police. He was taken into custody on charges of assault and battery and brandishing a weapon.
The victim, a female with whom Sanchez had children, was not injured in the attack.
The incident occurred at an apartment on Vineyard Boulevard during an argument between Sanchez and the victim, allegedly over financial matters, Sampson said. During the argument, Sanchez grabbed two kitchen knives, according to police, and pressed them against the throat of the female victim.
“A friend of the couple, apparently a godfather of the couple’s children, in an attempt to protect the female victim, convinced the suspect to thrown the knives down,” said Sampson. “The suspect then grabbed this individual by the head and threw him out the apartment door.”
Sampson said the couple’s friend received only bumps and bruises.
Alcohol was involved in the incident, Sampson said.
