SHS tennis wins another tight one

Sobrato trounces Branham 12-7
SAN JOSE — Sobrato is one win away from clinching a winning season in league and, likely, a berth in the CIF-Central Coast Section Playoffs.

With their 12-7 trouncing over Branham in San Jose, the Bulldogs became part of a three-way tie for second place in the Mount Hamilton Division, joining Westmont and Leigh.

Sobrato (15-13 overall, 10-9 league) has two regular-season games left, starting at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday against the visiting Pioneer Mustangs. The Bulldogs on Thursday travel to Live Oak for the deciding third game of their season series.

Sobrato jumped all over last-place Branham (11-16, 6-12), building an 11-1 lead through the first four innings. The Bruins scored six consecutive runs in the final three.

Chris Bradley homered in a 4-for-4 batting effort, and Ryan Williams doubled three times for the Bulldogs, who totaled 14 hits. Bradley (4-5), who also struck out seven in five innings to get the win, scored three runs and stole a base. Williams collected three RBIs, and Shea Adams homered and drove in two.

Tim Giles, Bryan Bradley and Tom Standridge had multiple hits for the Bulldogs.

Continuing his comeback to the mound, senior Billy Birrell worked the final two innings. He gave up three hits.
