Change is in the air at the Morgan Hill School District Office, as two assistant superintendents are gone and a new one is on the way in.
School Board trustees announced Monday night that Arlene Machado, former director of education technology and information services for the district, will be stepping into former Assistant Superintendent Denise Tate’s position as head of the human resources department.
Former Assistant Superintendent Claudette Beaty, who headed the educational services department, left the district when her contract expired in June. Tate’s contract did not expire until June 2005; she resigned last month and actually left the position this month.
Superintendent Carolyn McKennan said Machado will continue to head the technology department but now also assume charge of the human resources department.
Beaty’s position will not be filled, McKennan said.
“Her duties were split among myself, Linda Mann, Pat Blanar and Bonnie took some that were in line with her other responsibilities,” she said Thursday.
Bonnie Tognazzini is the deputy superintendent and head of the district’s business services department, Linda Mann is director of curriculum and staff development and Pat Blanar is director of curriculum and assessment.
The changes do not represent a savings to the district, McKennan said, but rather a restructuring to make the best use of personnel.
“We made all of the cost savings the board asked us to make in terms of the budget,” she said. “This is a way for use to use everyone’s talents most appropriately.”
McKennan said bringing back Mann, who served last year as principal at Central High, to the educational services department meant she had to find enough resources to cover the salary.
The technology and information services position will not be filled, McKennan said.
The district now has 32 administrators, including the five that were hired recently, as compared to the 42 it had during the 2000-2001 school year.
