New Recycling Program to Begin Oct. 3
The City of Morgan Hill, together with South Valley Disposal & Recycling, announces a new, expanded recycling program for Morgan Hill residents will begin Oct. 3.
The biggest feature of the new program is that residents will now be able to recycle food scraps and food-soiled paper such as pizza boxes and napkins in their green yard trimmings cart, which will now be picked up on a weekly basis. “Over 30 percent of our trash is food waste and food-soiled paper,” emphasized Tony Eulo, Program Administrator. “These new programs can make a huge difference in the success of our city’s program.”
Food and beverage containers, including glass, metal, plastics, and aseptic containers, as well as mixed paper and cardboard, will continue to be collected in brown carts on a biweekly basis. This program will now include scrap metal and plastic bags. In addition, household batteries placed in zippered bags on top of the cart will now be recycled.
The City of Morgan Hill urges residents to sort and recycle as much material as possible into one of the recycling containers to cut down on the amount of garbage being sent to the landfill. A variety of container sizes are available to suit each household’s needs. In addition, new kitchen containers for storing food scraps are now available.
