The South Valley Symphony has announced openings in all string categories, namely violin, viola, cello and contrabass, when rehearsals resume for the orchestra’s 32nd season on Wednesday, Aug. 24 at 7:30pm at the band room B7, Ascension Solorsano Middle School, 7121 Grenache Way.

Openings also exist for trombone, oboe and percussion instrumentalists. Applicants should have had sufficient training in their respective category and be able to readily read and follow music tempos.

The symphony is a community orchestra and a class is offered by Gavilan College.

There is no cost whatsoever to participate, since all registration fees are paid for by the symphony’s board of directors.

Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evening from 7:30 to 9:45pm.

16th Annual Taste of Morgan Hill promises more than just a bite to eat

The Taste of Morgan Hill, presented by the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce, Sept. 23 through Sept. 25, is being heralded as one of the most exciting in its 16-year history.

The Taste of Morgan Hill begins Friday evening, Sept. 23, with a Street Dance at the intersection of Monterey Road and Second Street in Downtown Morgan Hill featuring the Party Music of Live Action Heroes.

Saturday and Sunday, from 10am to 6pm, the Taste of Morgan Hill will take place in Downtown Morgan Hill on Monterey Road, between Main Street, to the north, and Dunne Avenue to the south. Games and rides for children, juried arts and crafts, and commercial products will be sold along the median on Monterey Road.

The annual event will offer the true taste of Morgan Hill with only local restaurants and caterers featured this year. More than 25 Morgan Hill restaurants will be featuring their exceptional fare in three food courts. Two will be on either side of Monterey Road at Third Street, and another food court will be located at the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center.

Experience Art in 30 Minutes or Less, as well, by attending a showing of 2004 Poppy Jasper Film Festival winners held at the Community Playhouse on Saturday, Sept. 24. 

The 16th Annual Taste of Morgan Hill will also feature great bands performing at Monterey Road and Second Street, as well as in the amphitheater located at the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center, located at Monterey Road and Dunne Avenue. Performances will occur on Saturday and Sunday and will feature a wide variety of music from the wind symphony to blues to country to rock ‘n roll!
