Local dealerships celebrate 25 years helping the MDA with special fundraiser

To commemorate Harley-Davidson’s 25th anniversary as a national sponsor for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, dealerships will be selling special Harley and MDA wristbands to benefit the MDA.

Dealerships will offer orange wristbands to customers who make a donation to the MDA. Additionally, customers who come in for a test ride on a Harley-Davidson or Buell motorcycle during the “Demo Days for MDA” promotion can also receive a Harley-Davidson collector’s edition wristband.

“We’re proud to participate in this latest fundraiser for the MDA. We hope to continue to raise money and support the programs and services until a cure is found and no child or adult suffers from neuromuscular disease,” says Paul James, communications manager for Harley-Davidson, Inc.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each bracelet will go to support the life-saving research, comprehensive medical care for children and adults with neuromuscular disease and the MDA summer camps. The wrist bands will be available throughout the summer while supplies last.

In 2004, MDA-funded research made several breakthroughs, including news that the gene for a specific protein can preserve strength and prolong life in mice that have amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. The protein is now being tested in people with ALS.

Since 1980, Harley has raised over $50 million for the MDA through its family of dealers, customers, suppliers and employees as a national sponsor.

Guglielmo to host another Cork Equity Day

Guglielmo Winery in Morgan Hill will host its ninth Cork Equity day, allowing locals to bottle their own red wine and save money while doing it.

The wine to be sold during the Cork Equity exemplifies the winemaking team’s mastery of the art of utilizing several growing regions and grape varieties. These components blended together arrive at a final product greater than the sum of its parts.

This blend is comprised of 37% Ruby Cabernet, 33% Santa Clara Valley Merlot, 14% San Luis Obispo County Petite Sirah, 10% Santa Clara Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Santa Clara Valley Carignane. Called Cavalcade Cellar Red, this special wine will only be available at the event.

Pricing for the Cork Equity wine with your own clean bottle is $5 per 750ml or $9 per 1.5L bottle. Clean empty bottles available for sale the day of the event: 750ml —50 cents each and 1.5L bottle—$1 each.

The event will be held Sat., Aug. 6, from 10am to 3pm, at the winery. For more information, call 779-2145. The winery will also hold a preview of the Cavalcade Cellar Red from 10am to 5pm on July 23, 24, 30, 31.
