Speed bumps accomplish city’s goal
Speed bumps recently placed on Morgan Hill’s downtown area along Monterey Road appear to be doing what they are intended to do: slow down traffic and divert some vehicles to other streets, according to City Manager Ed Tewes.
A recent traffic survey showed 27,000 vehicles travel through Monterey Road each day, Tewes said. The high traffic volume was a concern to downtown businesses. They were particularly worried about speeding vehicles in the downtown area. As a result, speed bumps were installed, requiring motorists to decrease their speed to 25 mph as they approach the downtown area.
Tewes said, “The first week the speed bumps were installed, our public works office received five to six calls a day from people complaining about the speed bumps. The calls then decreased, and now it’s quiet.”
Coyote Lake, Coe Park featured in “The Great Outdoors”
The Bay Area UPN station will broadcast an episode of “The Great Outdoors” with Tom Stienstra, set in Coyote Lake and Henry W. Coe State Park in Morgan Hill. Stienstra will join the Foster City mountain bikers on a ride to Coit Lake. The episode also features Santa Clara County’s newest recreation area, Coyote Lake – Harvey Bear Ranch County Park, east of Gilroy. The episode includes Trail Council Director Bob Power and reveals views of the southern Santa Clara valley and Coyote Lake. Park rangers Julie Lee and Chris Crockett will take Stienstra on a tour of the Lake’s excellent campground, which offers unique lakeshore camping opportunities.
