How many times have you hit the ball and it left a buzzing
feeling in your hands?
How many times have you hit the ball and it left a buzzing feeling in your hands? This is caused by striking the middle part of the ball with the front or leading edge of the club.
There are a few reasons this happens. First and foremost, you are probably setting up with your hands behind the ball. What this looks like to you, as you are set up, is if the shaft of your club is pointing up to the right of your belly button at address. If it is, simply push your hands toward the target slightly, so the shaft of the club is pointing towards your left hip and your left arm and shaft are a straight line. With your hands in this position, it will make it easier to strike the ball on the downward arc of the swing, thus making contact with the ball in the middle of the face of the club.
When your hands are behind the ball at address, as explained earlier, it will cause you to flip your club into the ball and make contact at the center of the ball with the edge.
So, every time you set up with an iron, make sure the shaft of the club is pointing to the inside of your front hip. You will have a solid chance for a solid shot.
