Cajun food coming soon to Morgan Hill

What is there to do for mothers who don’t have money to pay for
the Centennial Recreation Center? What do we do with our children
who complain when it’s hot. We live in an apartment with no AC.

“What is there to do for mothers who don’t have money to pay for the Centennial Recreation Center? What do we do with our children who complain when it’s hot. We live in an apartment with no AC.”

Red Phone: Dear No AC, Red Phone contacted Maureen Drewniany, recreation supervisor, who said the Centennial Recreation Center does offer scholarships for memberships based upon income.

“CRC membership does provide access to both the CRC, which has an indoor pool, and the Morgan Hill Aquatics Center,” Drewniany said. “However, I don’t know of any free water features in our community other than the interactive fountain at the Community and Cultural Center.”

She also said that both the Centennial Recreation Center and the Community and Cultural Center are “cooling centers” when the temperatures soar and anyone in the community is welcome to come to either facility to enjoy the air conditioned environment.

Hope that answers your question, good caller.

Water feature doused due to lack of funds

“Another summer of the water spray feature not operating at the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center. Is it a budget thing? Health and safety thing? How much does it actually cost to operate the feature? Any chance the community can rally around and gather funds to keep it running?”

Red Phone: Dear Stay Cool, Red Phone contacted Maureen Drewniany, recreation supervisor, who said a decision was made last year to turn off the interactive fountain in order to save the operational expense of $5,000 per season (April to September).

“The budget for fiscal year 2010/11, which was just adopted by our city council, does not include funding to operate the interactive fountain for this season either,” she said. It would be wonderful if the community could rally together to fund the $5,000 operational expense to turn the interactive fountain back on. It has been very much missed by many in the community on warm summer days.”

So there you have it, good caller, and others who enjoy the fountain. Anyone want to take on the challenge of raising $5,000 this year?
