Local residents, veterans and their families gathered in the median of Monterey Road in downtown Morgan Hill Monday morning for the annual Veterans Day ceremony.

The ceremony took place at the Veterans Memorial at First Street. MHPD officers closed the streets to vehicle traffic so the crowd could honor local veterans.

The Nov. 11 ceremony included a flag raising, moment of silence, prayer, patriotic songs led by local students, wreath laying and a reading of the names of local veterans who died in overseas combat.

The Veterans Day ceremony is organized every year by Morgan Hill resident Eddie Bowers, a Vietnam veteran. A ceremony is also held at the same location on Memorial Day every year.
