GILROY — The Silicon Valley Glory 18U Gold fastpitch softball team took third place at the ASA NorCal Championship tournament last weekend. Glory posted a 5-1 finish, moving to 9-2-1, in the season.

The lone defeat — a narrow 2-0 decision — came against the Chico Stars led by University of Oregon pitcher Jessica Moore.

Glory claimed a berth at Nationals, which will be held Aug. 1-8 in Hemet.

Three Glory players finished with a batting average of .400 for the tournament, including the team’s two youngest players, Gilroy native Kristen Dennis and Morgan Hill’s Kirsten Doting.

Five other players batted better than .300, including Gilroy’s Emily and Alissa Castro, Lindsay Holt, Michelle Sosa and Morgan Hill’s Erin Leggett.

Outfielder Emily Castro and pitcher Sammy McConvey homered. Morgan Hill’s Stephanie Doting and Elaina Vasquez made stellar catches in the outfield.

“Every member of the team made huge contributions to secure the third-place win, and the team is excited for an opportunity at Nationals in August,” manager Dennis Castro said.
