regarding Mr. Tichinin’s character. I am the person who lost the
support of Mr. Tichinin in the 2000 city council election
Dear Editor
A person can leave Morgan Hill and its politics but the politics don’t leave a person alone. Let me set the record straight regarding Mr. Tichinin’s response to Steve Harkness’s recent letter regarding Mr. Tichinin’s character. I am the person who lost the support of Mr. Tichinin in the 2000 city council election. Mr. Tichinin withdrew his support after I returned his campaign contribution. The decision to return the contribution came after a phone call from Mr. Tichinin concerning a matter that was coming before the city council. As a council member,I perceived his financial and endorsement support to be linked to my yes vote for his client. At my request, my campaign treasurer, Steve Harkness, delivered a check in the amount of the campaign contribution to Mr. Tichinin who promptly withdrew his support. I never regretted the decision. I never capitalized on this unfortunate event since I’d known Bruce for many years and hoped it was an aberration. Probably not. He is his own worse enemy.
And, for those who know Steve Harkness, we realize he is a free-thinking person and needs no encouragement or ulterior motives to share his opinion in an effort to make Morgan Hill a better place to live.
