Red Phone, hats off to the Morgan Hill maintenance crews who
cleaned up most of the median leading up to the entrances of
Jackson Oaks, Holiday Heights, Morning Sun Terrace and Holiday Lake
Estates!
“Red Phone, hats off to the Morgan Hill maintenance crews who cleaned up most of the median leading up to the entrances of Jackson Oaks, Holiday Heights, Morning Sun Terrace and Holiday Lake Estates! What a big improvement! However, the debris, trash, yard clippings, etc. that still litter the roadway is more than a little unsightly. In speaking with a representative from ‘Recology’ who sweep city streets after trash pick-up day, I was told their instruction from the city of Morgan Hill is not to sweep above Gallop Drive. Can you tell me the reasoning for this? As the gateway to more than 1,000 homes the roadway condition negatively impacts on our property values.”
Red Phone: Dear It’s a Little Unsightly, Red Phone contacted Anthony Eulo, program administrator with the city, who said the city’s agreement with Recology calls for them to sweep all residential streets except:
– private streets
– streets that are unsweepable due to safety and access issues
– streets without curbs and gutters since the sweeper relies on the curb to collect debris.
“It was recently brought to my attention that East Dunne Avenue itself has some curb and gutter and may be suitable for sweeping,” Eulo said. “The city and Recology are evaluating what it may take to get this done. In addition, the city and Recology are evaluating options for sweeping the public streets in Jackson Oaks. While they don’t have curb and gutter, there may be an opportunity to conduct some sweeping in this area.”
Hope that answers your questions, good caller.
DUI checkpoints paid for with grant
“With the current economic situation in city governments within the State of California, does the city of Morgan Hill need to have a DUI checkpoint program, with a half dozen officers on paid overtime, four sets of high watt lighting equipment, generators, and radar trailers set up at 9 p.m. on a Friday night on Tennant Avenue, seemingly to prey on evening diners who patronized local restaurants? What does it cost to produce one of these spectacles?”
Red Phone: Dear Annoyed, Red Phone contacted Cpl. Rod Krewson, who said the money for three checkpoints come from a $20,000 grant. All officers are paid by the grant.
“We apologize for any inconvenience but we believe education and awareness is extremely high priority for the citizens of Morgan Hill,” Krewson said
At that one checkpoint, officers contacted 501 motorists, of which 23 were motioned to a secondary checkpoint where seven were cited for driving without a license, and one for driving on a suspended license. No driving under the influence arrests were made.
There you have it, good caller.
